Croissants are made by pressing and folding dough to create a layered pastry. The researchers applied this technique to a dielectric capacitor, which is a device that stores energy like a battery.

Dr. Tonya E. Thornton, Ph.D. – Critical Infrastructure Resilience and Disaster Recovery

Dr. Thornton has contributed many products to HDIAC as a member of the HDIAC SME network. Her most recent work are two podcasts discussing the resiliency in the nation’s 16 critical infrastructure sectors. She has also recorded podcasts discussing disaster response and recovery, and presented a webinar on the role of communication, coordination, and collaboration for critical infrastructure resilience.

Critical Infrastructure Protection

Critical Infrastructure Protection is one of the HDIAC’s eight technical focus areas. This SOAR reviews the current state of emerging technologies and methodologies relating to the protection of infrastructure and resources critical to national security. The report takes a look at the evolution of our critical infrastructure protective measures, the physical and cyber threats to our critical infrastructure, and the role government has in working with the owners of the largely privately-owned infrastructure assets.
