Volkan Cecen, Ph.D., received his degree in mechanical engineering from Dokuz Eylul University, Turkey, in 2006. After that he received a Humboldt Research Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and worked at the Institute for Macromolecular Chemistry and Freiburg Material Research Center in Freiburg, Germany. Dr. Cecen joined as a visiting scholar in Professor Kotov’s group in August 2018. His current research interests mainly include design of aramid nanofiber biomimetic composites and their application in electrochemical storage.
The authors discuss the concept of and research into structural batteries, i.e. batteries that can serve two purposes at once: store energy needed by a system for operation and carry the structural load of the system that they are a part of.
