The increase in nuclear proliferation and availability of ballistic missile technology present a growing threat to DoD operations domestically and abroad. Missile defense systems face increased range and salvo firing capabilities of hostile states, leaving current systems vulnerable. As more countries seek ballistic missile technologies capable of exploiting vulnerabilities in existing missile defense systems, further protections, including early warning and defense systems capable of intercepting a large number of missiles in succession, must be established to bolster American defenses.
